Valentine’s Day is a joke to me. It is useless. It is a waste of a day. It is sickening. more

The Inaugural Address: More Nonsensical Rhetoric
Isaiah St. John/Outlook Reporter
isaiah_stjohn@pipeline.owens.edu

George W. Bush’s inaugural address was filled with the usual balderdash.
He proclaimed the need for liberty throughout the world and grossly overstated America’s interest in the fulfillment of this need, saying, “The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands.” more

Recycling Bin
Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,
This past week I finished drinking my bottle of water and went to find a recycling container. It was just past 7:30 p.m. and I was in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
I looked everywhere until I finally located one in the SHAC. This was quite a distance to walk just to recycle my bottle. I was frustrated, and late to my next class.
Since this happened I have been increasingly aware of the lack of recycling bins all over campus. Since they are few and far between, while I am walking to the containers I stop and check the tops of trash cans and find they are usually filled with bottles and cans. This really bothers me.
Even more disturbing than the lack of recycling containers is lack of use of the ones in place. On one occasion, as I was dropping my bottle in a bin, I noticed the trash next to it had several bottles in it as well. I pulled them out and counted nine just sitting on top.
I am outraged at the ignorance of our students. Recycling trash has many benefits, including saving natural resources and natural areas, saving energy, reducing pollution, conserving landfill space, and creating industry and jobs across the nation. It is difficult for me to understand why people are not using the bins we have when the cost of not recycling is so high for everyone.
I have faith in our student government to help obtain more recycling bins. While this operation is in the works, I would like to urge our student body to make the best of what we have.
Recycling is important to everyone, and I hope everyone will do his part in maintaining our precious environment.
