Owens Student Government recently held a meeting to discuss some important
issues affecting Owens Community College students, including aid for tsunami
victims, maintaining communication with Findlay campus students, and the
Martin Luther King Jr. procession.
They first spoke with a gentleman whose parents are from Indonesia and
Singapore. He has lost his aunt and cousins to the tsunami that recently
hit and spoke of the need to get money to the small villages that may
not receive as much help otherwise. The Red Cross and Peace Corps were
brought up as possible groups for donation. The members of student government
also discussed various ways of raising money on campus for the relief
effort. A tsunami aid committee was also formed to help in the aid process.
Next up on the docket for the student government was a discussion about
videoconferencing their meetings with the Owens Findlay campus starting
Jan. 19. The meetings will be held in Audio Visual (AVCC) room 151. During
the meetings students can watch and interact with the student government
to hear what is going on at Owens and also discuss any issues that they
may have.
Student government also participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. procession
at the University of Toledo on Jan. 17 and a student government in-service
on Jan. 15 here on campus that included a pre-ceremony luncheon. During
the in-service, the student government spent eight hours discussing future
plans for campus wide events coming up in the spring as well as finalizing
current events.
