Today, April 22, 2013 is Earth Day. It is the day to do something good for the planet we live on.There are many things you can do to celebrate the
day. You could plant a tree. Donate to a worthy conservation organization. Carpool with a friend. I reused plastic bottles to make terrariums for a couple of my small plants.

Plant the Seed! Owens Hunger Awareness Event took place at the Toledo campus of Owens Community College Thursday, February 13, 2013. The event was created to bring awareness to the problem of food insecurity in the area, especially at Owens Community College.
Michelle Atkins of Team Alliance, reported that 70% of Northwest Ohio has a need for food assistance, and that the population at Owens Community College is at about the same level as the area statistic.

A problem with hunger and poor nutrition due to a lack of food is a problem on campus. The Harvest Pantry is proof that students need help. Team Alliance is trying to bring awareness to the fact that many people at Owens Community College need assistance.

Texting while driving is dangerous. It has eclipsed drunk driving as the number one public driving safety concern. Student Government is hosting the Distracted Driving Program in an attempt to keep students safe behind the wheel. The program uses cutting-edge technology, video display and live personal interaction and presentation to show attendees firsthand how dangerous driving while texting is. Visit the AVCC rooms 125-128 between 10:00 am-4:00 pm to use the simulator and take the pledge not to text and drive.

Children grow so fast! It’s hard to keep up with clothes that fit them, and it can get quite expensive. They grow out of their clothes before they are worn out. Instead of throwing those clothes away, bring them to the kids clothing swap March 19, 2013 between 9:00 am-3:00 pm and exchange them for gently used or new clothes that your child will fit. Reusing is great for the wallet and the environment! The Student Activities sponsored event will be held in AVCC rooms 125-128.

Student Government is hosting a charity week January 29-31, 2013. Stop by the SHAC 165 hallway between 9 am-4 pm to donate a little of your time and have fun. Today, Tuesday, January 29 you can make a dog toy or no-sew blanket for a sheltered animal, or make a smile bag for a child who needs dental work. Stop by each day for more fun activities.
