Author Nick Flynn visited Owens Community College on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. Flynn is the author of the book, “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City.” He was thrilled to have had his book used as a campus wide read at Owens, and surprised that his book was chosen.

The award winning book is a memoir about Flynn’s relationship with his alcoholic father. It has been translated into 14 different languages. The book has also been made into a movie titled, “Being Flynn.” Flynn told of his father meeting actor Robert De Niro, who plays his father’s character in the movie.  Flynn laughed that during the meeting, his father asked De Niro, “So, you do some acting?”

T-shirts and water bottles with the title of the book printed on them were given away as prizes to several lucky attendees. Flynn then read experts from several of his books, including, “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City,” and “Some Ether,” as well as shared stories about the making of the book and events that had happened. After the reading, Flynn signed books and autographs. He took the time to sign each book with the recipient’s name and a short message.  The bookstore sold copies of the book for $15 at the event for those that wanted Flynn to sign a book but did not have one.
