Jerron Jamerson has decided to continue his basketball career at Goshen College beginning next season after signing a letter of intent.
He was part of one of the biggest turnarounds in men’s basketball history at Owens. Following a freshmen year in which the Express finished 10-21 overall, Jamerson helped the Express to a 24-8 record, including a second place finish in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and a runner-up finish in the Region XII District 10 tournament. He averaged six points, 2.6 rebounds and almost three assists per game.

Three more sophomores – Erin Schatzle, Julia Haupricht and Alyssa Pelish – will continue their time as volleyball student-athletes after signing with four-year schools.
Schatzle, a 5’9″ setter/outside hitter from Monroe HS in Monroe, MI, will play at Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. She was a two-time First Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and one-time First Team All-Region XII selection while totaling 909 assists, 375 digs and 223 kills as a sophomore. In her two-year career, Schatzle totaled 1,838 assists, 692 digs and 436 kills.

The C-SPAN Campaign 2012 bus will be stopping by to visit the Toledo-area Campus Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. The bus will be parked between College Hall and Admin Hall.
The C-SPAN Campaign 2012 bus visits colleges and universities each year to promote C-SPAN’s free resources. The interactive nature of the bus showcases different ways for people to connect with C-SPAN. The bus is designed to host visitors in two main areas, the “classroom” setting in the back and a interactive section in the front.

Owens Community College’s Environmental Club is raising environmental awareness by bringing new life to worm-out jeans, jackets and purses previously destined for overcrowded landfills. As a result of the student group’s recent collection drive efforts, hundreds of denim items will soon find their way to “®COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN.” and given “new life” as part of the environmental program’s UltraTouch National Cotton Fiber Insulation.

Owens Community College alumnus Walter Celley of Perrysburg has been chosen by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his outstanding commitment to the local community and higher education.
Celley was recently honored for his exemplary efforts to Ohio’s community colleges during the OACC’s annual Excellence Awards Gala in Columbus. The Excellence Awards were established by the OACC with the overall goal of providing an opportunity for the state’s 23 community colleges to honor individuals and organizations for their exemplary contributions.
