PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Owens Community College student Benjamin Irvine of Maumee has been chosen by the Board of Trustees Student Life Committee to receive a student excellence award for his commitment to academics, community engagement, student leadership and involvement in student life.
Irvine received the Certificate of Recognition for Exceptional Student Leadership and was recognized for his achievement at the College’s recent Board of Trustees meeting.

Robert W. LaClair, President and CEO of Fifth Third Bank (Northwestern Ohio), will serve as the keynote speaker for the College’s Spring Commencement. Owens’ commencement ceremony is free and open to the public.

The Toledo campus of Owens Community College hosted their annual Lincoln Motorsports Welding night on Thursday, April 4, 2013. Welding simulators were available for attendees to try welding. The two highest scores of the simulator won welding helmets from Lincoln Electric Company.
Welding demonstrations took place during the event and guest speaker Karl Hoes of the Lincoln Electric Company presented. Plant the Seed! Owens Hunger Awareness Event took place at the Toledo campus of Owens Community College Thursday, February 13, 2013. The event was created to bring awareness to the problem of food insecurity in the area, especially at Owens Community College.
Michelle Atkins of Team Alliance, reported that 70% of Northwest Ohio has a need for food assistance, and that the population at Owens Community College is at about the same level as the area statistic.

A problem with hunger and poor nutrition due to a lack of food is a problem on campus. The Harvest Pantry is proof that students need help. Team Alliance is trying to bring awareness to the fact that many people at Owens Community College need assistance.

Tour Book Party

The tour book party was held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm in the AV building of the Toledo campus at Owens Community College. The party, sponsored by Student Government, was to celebrate everyone who had gotten stamps on their tour books throughout the semester.
Tour books were stamped as students attended various events such as Fall Fling, the 9/11 memorial, Halloween Alternative and other activities. Many of the events were free of charge for students.
