Dr. Bower will be getting some help running the college for now on, enter the Risk Management Team. The Risk Management Team will be the advisory group for Dr. Bower in helping him make informed and helpful decisions that affects Owens. The team consists of four chairman each with a speciality to bring to the group, Betsy Johnson is the regulatory consultant, Laurie Sabin is financial consultant, Natalie Jackson specializes in legal and Tom Perin is accreditation consultant.
Tom Perin explains the purpose of the Risk Management Team.
“Because of the ever changing rules and federal regulations for higher ed,” Perin says, “then we don’t want to get ourselves in a situation that could compromise accreditation, or anything like that.”
Perin describes that the Risk Management Team would not only be good for the President and College but the students in whole. The team advises in many different decisions affecting new majors, federal funding, contract situations and many other things which could affect Owens. The team is to put the time into the research, and get the facts so that Owens can make the best decisions that affect the college and the student body.
“You’ve got four key people that I’d say are very good at what they do, and ready to give [Dr. Bower] immediate advice, so the reaction time is quicker,” Perin explains.
He talks about how all the new changes in improving the educational system are great but that the College just needs to keep up with it and that’s what the Risk Management Team is. The team is about making the best decisions in the most effective time with a group of experts who are all very knowledgeable in their consulting field.
“That’s the goal that’s what we’re after” Perin says, “providing that quality education, keeping it affordable. Risk Management is gonna help do that, we don’t want to get into a situation thats not good for the college.”
